Introduction

Content and Audience is a continuation of the conceptual and formal issues acquired in Form and Concept, and Typography. However, this course expands upon your skills by emphasizing conceptual thinking as the basis of innovative design processes. The course concentrates on developing solutions to visual communication problems through research and analysis of content in relation to specific audiences, contexts, and production criteria. Relevant aspects of design history and theory are examined in relation to course projects. This course is a requirement for all graphic design majors. Prerequisites: ART 051 and 052, or permission of instructor.

Objectives
First and foremost, this course will encourage you to consider content and audience—to develop the ability to describe and respond to various users and contexts which visual communication solutions address. You will develop an understanding of graphic design as a tool for visual communication by synthesizing, combining and emphasizing visual, pictorial, typographic and prose based elements. You will gain insight into the analysis of textual and graphic content and will explore the relationships between media, form, and the perception and understanding of visual messages. Last, this course is an opportu- nity for you to develop a range of portfolio quality pieces that display your passion and skill displayed utilizing a range of technology and media.

CONCEPTUALLY, THIS COURSE WILL ENABLE YOU TO:
